« Saxophonist, pedagogue, linked to the university, Jean-Pierre Caens shows the diversity of his background and richness of his career through his personality. Born in a musical family, he grew up in music and lives for it. He received, at the Music school of Dijon, the course of the prestigious saxophonist Jean-Marie Londeix, but also got extensive training in piano, harmony, analysis and music history. He then entered the National music school of Paris within the class of Daniel Deffayet, where he won his first prize in saxophone. His curiosity and an appetite for knowledge guided him to not only have the certificate for music education but also to enter the University of Paris IV Sorbonne taking a of bachelor of arts and a master and PhD in musicology. He successfully presented his thesis entitled: "the saxophone meets its repertoires".

This dual activity as an instrumentalist and teacher has had throughout his career a decisive influence, an appetite to play, has led to various concerts and a desire to understand and analyze. This need of culture led him to develop along with it a teaching activity within the University to successfully prepare for the license and the certificate for music education in musicology. Carrying the soul of a creator brought him to create and animate various groups and music associations: saxophones' quartets, quartets of reeds, groups of saxophones, the group Zarbouk, various forms of recitals with piano, trumpet and organ and contemporary music. The press hailed his many national and international awards (international competition of Geneva in Switzerland, of Ancona in Italy, of Martigny in Switzerland, of the Ufam in Paris), his discography, his commitment to contemporary music and its orders with composers today (over seventy pieces up to date). After Paris and Besançon, Jean-Pierre Caens is now currently based in Aix en Provence. He teaches saxophone at the Darius Milhaud music school. Member of the SACEM, artistic director of Amcel Agora Diffusion and of the educational collections published by Billaudot and Robert Martin, he worked with the group SML ALGAM (Publication La Boîte Noire) for the design and development of Yanagisawa saxophones. »
